I agree. It’s about time we stop the “they are just dumb” discourse. Being stupid doesn’t exempt you from the consequences of your acts. They are dumb, but they are also evil. I’m not a markets expert, but I’ve always heard that Nintendo in Japan is a somewhat safe stock so this is probably investors fearing the AI crack and moving towards a stock that isn’t too invested in AI and was already safe to begin with.
They do a great work hiding that data from public. I keep seeing new teslas here in Italy and keep wondering how can people still keep buying those shit cars, not just because they’re giving a nazi their money, but because they are shit cars when it comes to safety and quality.

I work in the food industry in a somewhat big company in Italy. In all the productive process, we have found exactly 1 (one) application for an AI. And I’m not talking about an LLM, but about the good ol’ machine learning: It’s a system that checks the labels of the product to see if they are good or not. It needed training but now it can check if the labels are fit for the market faster than a person. That’s it. That’s the single part of the whole process in which an AI has removed a person and just because it’s a job that a human couldn’t do it fast enough anyway.
For the rest? The higher ups realized that there’s always the need of human intervention because even the simpler work requires of a decision making that a machine simply can’t do.
We also have nopilot for the computers but only because it comes with the office package that the company pays. Nobody actually uses it other than to ask it stupid things.
Can’t wait to not buy that shit. But most of all, can’t wait to see how long till someone uses that to blackmail people recorded without noticing.
In the end, someone will invent a portable EMP and people will start buying them as a mean of self defense.

Yeah, but let’s get to the worst case scenario: A bunch of assholes star generating images like crazy. They manage to create some million images of innocent people. So many images that xitter can’t pay the fine, get dissolved and that’s all.
Meanwhile, millions of people have pornographic deepfakes of them on the internet, FOREVER.
No. We can’t wait for that to happen, xitter needs to close the technology before the first image puts them in trouble.
They need to fear the first image generated, not the 1000th one.
If a user generates 1 pic a minute, in a day he generates 1440 pics, that means potentially 1440 people hurt by a single asshole in a day.
I don’t care how much it will cost to xitter, I care for how much will those people suffer.
Xitter needs to be worried that a single user generates one image, not that a bunch of assholes generate some thousands or even a million images because for each image, there’s gonna be a person (or more) suffering.
And this company’s revenue is in the billions per year. BILLIONS. A 500k fine is not even spare change for them, is literally a rounding error. It’s as if when you go buy groceries, they round up a $0.95 price to $1.
That for a fucking CSAM picture.
So, if maths on a sunday morning don’t fail me, for a person making 100k yearly, that’s a $625 fine more or less. A slap in the wrist and a kiss in the forehead.
