You can just use a different distro and benifit off all the work that went into developing steam by using the open source tools they threw money at or directly helped along.

Say what you will of steam being a monopoly, and still being a evil corperation I’m all for it. But the world is not so black and white and sometimes you gotta side with the bad guys because at this moment it benifits you more. At any time steam can start forcing digital ID to play mature games, or start doing weird shit.

I can’t say the same for companies like nvidia or epic who are now trying to weasle in. Who are completely closed source and don’t have anything that directly helps the community at large. Steam at least gives you the tools to make your own open source steam deck/steam machine competitor because if despite all odds you make a popular consolex most people are still going to end up putting steam on it. That dynamic can change at any moment, but in the now I’m allowed to pick my favorite corperation and willfully ignore a lot of glaring issues, because to me the benifit outways the down sides. If I’m going to get fucked I at least want it to be comfortable, maybe missionary with some mutual kissing. Despite all the criticism against them that I agree with I still personally like then and click in their videos every now and then.

What I appreciate the most is the are constantly pushing Linux often even if they are misguided, and they have a large audience of rather normal people.

I do think they are positively contributing to linuxs growth, and helps normalize devices like the steam deck.

Its like three posts in the past two days mainly because I am surprises you are here too. Don’t flatter yourself too much.

Madthumbs I’m pretty sure just uses ai to summarize things for him. He slips a lot, he had me going for a while but he straight up lied about having used proton to some user, the user told him madthumbs his experience with proton which is what more accurate to what I remembered when steam deck was released. madthumbs then said something like “huh I remember the experience being subjective, but my ai agreed with what you said!” And then just fucked off completely disregarding what he said before.

He heavily uses ai for his posts too. I mean maybe he is legit and knows what hes talking about but every once and a while it feels like he slips up and I’m unsure. Because a lot of what he says is just basic arguments gemeni will bring up if you ask it “how do I shit on Linux fans” and a lot of stuff he mentions is out dated too. I don’t know.

If mulvad didn’t take away the ability to just dump your VPN in your router via wiregaurd I would say do that over running the VPN on the system. Use an openwrt capable router and google a good saftey guide.
