Use whatever feels comfortable. Both are fine. People are complaining about micro annoyances that should not really affect you at first.

When you get comfortable with Linux, you’ll also get to pick sides in micro battles like KDE vs Gnome, vi vs emacs, systemd vs sysv, flatpak vs snap and all the other wonderful my-side-is-better-than-yours fights.

This is an objectively false statement. There are at least one scenario I can think of where Snap is better than flatpak.

Edit: You guys really don’t know what objectively better means huh.

Snaps run CLI programs. As a server operator, snaps are at times genuinely useful. This sub betrays itself as being mostly hobbyists by not understanding that flatpaks only work for GUI apps.

There are many reasons why you don’t want to do this. Flatpaks dont touch PATH, the sandboxing makes it difficult, and flathub doesn’t distribute CLI programs, being the main ones. So yes, it is technically possible, but so cumbersome as to be unfeasible. Snap on the other hand does implement a pretty frictionless method for running CLI snaps.

Again, you guys are making me defend snap, I’m not even an Ubuntu user. However, when you blindly state things that are incorrect, you denigrate your own position. This whole snaps are slavery echo chamber is extremely tedious. Its no different than people just parroting political opinions they saw on instagram. Use the best tool for the job. If that’s Ubuntu, great.

      systemd vs sysv

There is no systemd vs sysv war. It is systemd suck or systemd fine.

Indeed. It seems that everyone dislikes sysv, but a small group can’t decide on what the better option is.

micro battles like KDE vs Gnome

I don’t think that’s a small thing for someone new to Linux.

I prefer Xfce over MATE, KDE, and Cinnamon because I use old computers. I wouldn’t recommend modern GNOME.
