Kiwix is probably the easiest / most readily available solution, but wikipedia runs on mediawiki which is also FOSS:

To be more precise:

• https://kiwix.org/en/applications/, scroll down to kiwix server.
• get a wikipedia dump in .zim format. AFAIU you can either get it from kiwix or get a database dump from wikipedia and convert it into .zim format.
• the rest, I’m guessing, is just running the server and pointing it to the .zim file.

My mouse is steelseries and there’s a simple Linux utility to change the color of the LED (black switches it off).

And it’s a really good mouse.

Pulseaudio, pipewire, jack, even alsa all have equalisers.

If it emits some signal the OS recognizes it’s possible to bind that to some action, hack a script.

It also includes a mixer for managing multiple audio sources.

Personally I recommend getting a Sony Xperia and installing it yourself.

SFOS has been my daily driver for 5 years now.

I paid €49 for the license, so it’s a bargain right now at 24.90, and my latest device, an xperia x10ii, cost just €60.

I use SailfishOS on a Sony Xperia. 50€ for the SFOS license, 60€ for the phone.

I definitely have lost at least one install to getting stuck in vim, flailing the keyboard and writing garbage data into a critical config file before rebooting.

And for most use case you’ll want to get rid of the GUI. In Debian’s case, best to reinstall the so-called minimal or netinst image.

De-soldering should be ok to start with. Yes, I have heard that too. I’m guessing the “special technique” just means that you make sure the battery does not get too hot. Special tin might be required (that melts earlier).

I just remembered something - often (and more likely the older the device is) - the battery consists of an array of standard cells which can be bought separately. So if you feel adventurous you can pry the battery open, unsolder the cells, test each one separately - chances are there’s just one that’s completely dead, thus making the whole thing unusable.

I love netbooks. I regret selling mine after Archlinux went 64bit only. It was beautiful (all pearly white) and small and the keyboard was perfectly usable even for my fat fingers.
