Not quite. With a phone number a random phone provider knows your identity. They do not get notified you are signing up for Signals. Google doesn’t know you signed up with that phone number for Signals either. Depending on your country and how these details are handled there may not be an easy way to lookup who you are from a phone number.

There’s obvious downsides to the phone number use, of course, but saying it the same in terms of privacy than this, doesn’t feel correct.

I use that too but it doesn’t feel like it helps much anymore. Or it does help and search without it would be absolute hell.

You still get many links to weird webpages with tons and tons of fluff text without any real information important to you.

I do some origami here and there and use the search often to see if I can find a page with diagrams I don’t yet know about. There’s AI generated pages waffling on about origami diagrams with no actual diagrams shown. It is so sad to see.

You are right, they did end of last year. I however don’t know if they picked up again this year.

I was curious and found this site here that I have no clue how credible it is, looks very AI-sloppy, they claim up 25% from end of 2025 to beginning 2026 in Sweden (https://custommapposter.com/article/tesla-s-european-sales-collapse-44-drop-in-2026-what-s-going-wrong/2835).

Also tons of Teslas on the road here. During the time they were in the news for getting torched in the US, nothing of the sort happened here.
