Well, we commonly hold the view, as a society, that children cannot consent to sex, especially with an adult. Part of that is because the adult has so much more life experience and less attachment to the relationship. In this case, the app engaged in sexual chatting with a minor (I’m actually extremely curious how that’s not soliciting a minor or some indecency charge since it was content created by the AI fornthar specific user). The AI absolutely “understands” manipulation more than most adults let alone a 14 year old boy, and also has no concept of attachment. It seemed pretty clear he was a minor in his conversations to the app. This is definitely an issue.
Again, even if a vegan is spamming the word “vegan” in public spaces (which they almost never do like people joke about), it’s leagues better than racist slurs which society has just like, tolerated? In public spaces as being inevitable for several years, notably online and in games
Racial slurs do real damage.
You know, vegans get a lot of hate for telling everyone they are vegan, yet I’ve never heard a vegan doing this and yelling about veganism. It’s almost like racists are so much more violent and outspoken about it, including in kid’s game lobbies and now with fucking vacuums. I have never seen vegans yell “VEGAN!” online repeatedly… and even if they did, that’s substantially less harm anyway than racist bullshit. I never want to hear people complain about vegans talking about veganism ever again when this shit is part of everyday society and not surprising at all.
And ps I am not vegan.

Thanks, here’s another article about this:
The process of sabotage begins with physical modification of the pager or personal radio. These devices already contain all the essential components for an explosive device: a power source — the battery, a container — the device casing, and a triggering mechanism —the communication circuitry. The addition of a detonator and explosive charge converts them into remote-controlled bombs. A microcontroller is typically embedded within the device to interface with its circuitry, allowing it to detonate in response to external signals.
“The triggering mechanism for these devices relies primarily on radio frequency signals, as both pagers and walkie-talkies operate on radio frequency bands. In the case of pagers, a unique radio frequency signal can be transmitted over the paging network. The modified pager, programmed to listen for this specific signal, activates the detonator when the correct frequency and signal pattern are detected.
“Similarly, a walkie-talkie can be set to a predetermined channel and frequency. When the matching radio frequency signal is received, the microcontroller closes the circuit, triggering the explosion.
“To ensure precise activation, the microcontroller can be programmed to recognize a unique sequence of tones or signal modulations, minimizing the risk of accidental detonation. This setup requires careful pre-programming and maybe signal testing, often involving encryption or authentication sequences to prevent unintended triggering.
“The combination of radio frequency signals with an embedded microcontroller enables remote activation. It takes a high level of technical expertise to modify these low-tech communication tools into sophisticated remote-controlled weapons.”
Both, al jazeera source says the explosive inside is PETN. What I’m asking is how tf did text messages and whatever in the walkie talkies ignite a spark strong enough to ignite the PETN? Is that true? Or is it possible some of these are still live or ignited in a faulty way? What is the risk to the public?
Afaik such an idea was nonsense previously. Why are we taking their word that this is sophisticated at any level when they’ve been simply brutal up to now?
Anyone else confused about how these bombs are actually detonating? Articles say they are detonating via a text message sent 3x in error, theoretically causing either a spark or a “closed circuit” like a different article explained. The article (from al jazeera) says they have to look at the message but there’s video of one igniting in a bag.
I’m curious because I think these pagers may actually constitute a public safety risk, similar to how heavily landmined areas risk exploding even decades later on someone unrelated to the initial conflict.
They should be charged an emissions tax and worker safety tax since driving to/from work is one of the leading causes of death for working adults
It is engagement farming for absolutely zero reason.
So what? Should we ban people posting memes too? Should we ban the engagement system/up vote system? Like what’s your point here? That people share ideas and thoughts? Wow, what news.
The astronauts in space are a big deal and the latest development had SpaceX rescuing them which is why that person brought it up. They weren’t bringing up Boeing originally, they were bringing up the astronaut story since it all ties together. If SpaceX is grounded, how will they get those astronauts?
And then the next person points out that Boeing and most CEOs tend to feel like worker deaths are the cost of business. That’s pretty apropos when talking about those astronauts getting stuck up there. Worker solidarity and all.
I’m a sex worker so I get a LOT of requests to use Telegram. Human trafficking is something I am directly exposed to and I am in danger of. The men who request to use Telegram make me feel in danger. So it doesn’t surprise me the owner of that app was arrested. My assumption comes from my experience.
This sub isn’t a telegram sub, it’s a technology one. I use technology.
Well, telegram has public and private conversations. So in this example, you’d know because they were having trafficking parties on their front yard and the police of multiple countries notified them to let them know. And then you were aware of this issue so you purposely avoided being in numerous countries that want to arrest you. Seems like he knew.
Next they’ll charge oil executives for damage to the planet
If a car company made a vehicle that has features that specifically would help with human trafficking and not getting caught, then yeah imo they should be charged.
Just like how any company making a harmful product should be held accountable.
I hope they arrest the CEO of ExxonMobil next. Arrest all the CEOs, France.
“Laws are threats made by the dominant socioeconomic-ethnic group in a given nation. It’s just the promise of violence that’s enacted and the police are basically an occupying army. You know what I mean?”

Please know men like him care more about dominance than intellectual honesty. He doesn’t care about the actual philosophical nature of free speech. He cares about getting his way.
Telegram has always had the sketchiest people on it. I refuse to use it because it feels like I’m talking with human traffickers. Doesn’t surprise me he was arrested.
You don’t think the people who make the generative algorithm have a duty to what it generates?
And whatever you think anyway, the company itself shows that it feels obligated about what the AI puts out, because they are constantly trying to stop the AI from giving out bomb instructions and hate speech and illegal sexual content.
The standard is not and was never if they were “entirely” at fault here. It’s whether they have any responsibility towards this (and we all here can see that they do indeed have some), and how much financially that’s worth in damages. That’s the point of this suit. The case isn’t about whether AI itself should be outlawed for minors etc, it’s not the parents who are on trial either.
There’s no world in which I can see AI being given a pass for sexting with a minor because then that allows pedophiles who work for AI companies to be predators and either look at those conversations or even locate vulnerable youth. No company should be given legal protection to harm children.
