3·6 hours agoMeta and their intellectual property can burn for all I care.

Losing a job still sucks in this economy.

Technology@lemmy.world•X announces significant restrictions to free accounts; 50 posts and 200 replies per dayEnglish
71·3 days agoSince 2007 or so, I haven’t seen a good use case for Xitter other than situations where mass messaging is necessary. Like a utility company announcing maintenance or outages. Why do people care so much about what other people think?
My dear mother taught me that opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one and they all stink.
Wise woman.

Technology@lemmy.world•‘A’ Grades Are Suddenly Everywhere Since the Arrival of ChatGPTEnglish
29·7 days agoThis happened to me. I was a pretty good kid; brainy too, but one history test kicked my ass. The teacher was the husband of my grandfather’s sister. A distant family cut me a break.
This phenomenon can continue into adulthood too.
However, after a certain point it’s not about the grades you make. It’s about the hands you shake.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI data centers face increasing complaints about inaudible but 'felt' infrasound — citizens complain high- and low-frequency sounds do not register on decibel meters but cause adverse health effectsEnglish
522·13 days agoThere’s a local council in my community that is gunning for an AI data center in my county. People are livid, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough to stop the construction. It’s shady as fuck with hidden shareholders that nobody will reveal.
I’m open to any and all suggestions on how to prevent this data center from being built. Peaceful ideas or otherwise.

232·14 days agoI left Facebook after 18 years. It’s nothing like what I originally signed up for.
Facebook is nothing but boomers, bots and AI generated click bait. A cesspool of our own creation.

4·23 days agoI’ll never understand Spotify. If it’s such a pain in the ass why do people use it? Napster was big when I was in high school so if I find a song I like, I go download it. Sometimes it’s piracy. Sometimes it’s a legitimate purchase. Whichever is easiest.
Done. The end. It’s mine forever.
As far as discoverability goes it helps that there have been no new music releases in the past couple of decades that I care about.

23·27 days agoI’m no economist but the academic model of capitalism works just fine. The problem is when you have moral and ethical failings while legislating off the guardrails that keep things fair and people honest.
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism. It’s us.
We’re the problem.
