1·1 month agoYou know those are the exceptions, not the rules. Capitalism means that you play the dirty tricks everyone else does or get left behind. Legislation is the way out of this, not the delusion that we can convince people to just “choose better”. I tried to convince people for the better half of a decade. People simply do not have the knowledge to understand why they should care.

53·1 month agoI don’t know why people keep saying this. You either pay for a service, or you get a company extracting as much data as they can from you for advertiser or VC money. Servers and bandwidth cost money
+1 for thrifted laser. Just look for replacement toner before checking out.
Yeah, I think laser with viable third party cartridges is the actual answer. No matter what brand. Individual model is more important than the brand too, because my Brother was actually still kinda annoying to get working properly.
Inkjet isn’t appropriate for somebody who prints infrequently, especially refillable inkjets, because they dry out even faster than cartridges. Toner is powder and stays good for basically as long as the printer is functional.
It might depend on climate, because I live somewhere semi-arid, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

1·2 months agoThat’s unfortunate (for Linus), but Louis Rossmann’s story about dealing with Linus directly pretty clearly shows him to be an unpleasant person that thinks of relationships as transactional. And it is objectively true that LMG is going for quantity over quality of videos.
As other people in this thread have stated though, it seems this problem isn’t actually about Linus or LMG, it’s a greater trend at YouTube.

6·2 months ago90% of the complaints I’ve heard about GIMP are just because its UI and workflow are different from whatever tool they’re used to. I like GIMP just fine because I learned on it. I don’t even like using Krita because I feel like it’s 50% gimp with a skin lol

1·4 months agoYou have specifically identified why they wanna kill it off.
Maybe it’s not so great how monolithic systemd is, but it has brought a lot of great functionality to the Linux world. Not as if Linux has ever been married to the Unix philosophy anyways.

11·5 months agoThe GPL already forbids distributing without the source code being available. People who break GPL will break this license too, and they will have even less resources to fight it. I wish people would stop writing their own licenses and just get behind the GPL. There’s already tons of lawyers familiar with it.
