They seem a little unnatural to me too. It’s like they force a certain perspective. The algorithmic “enhancements” don’t help either, especially at night time. It’s almost impossible to get a good photo at night with the iPhone, by comparison.
We did some amount of joking around with the camera and I don’t remember getting a blur, but I was able to change settings to achieve it and get some nice effects like when car lights leave long red streaks behind them. I was lucky though, I had someone explain the main settings to me like ISO and shutter speed.
Most people I’ve mentioned it to don’t seem to notice. A more obvious example is distant objects like mountains, or the moon, looking absolutely tiny. But it happens with objects just a few meters away.
I still have an iPhone and I prefer the pictures my Fuji Finepix took back in the 2000s. It didn’t put that weird fisheye effect on landscapes that make background objects look like they’re a kilometre away when they were only a few meters away. I’m still surprised by how good those pictures are, and the way the lens automatically extends and retracts is just joyful. I never think that of my iPhone.
The pictures are more grainy, and have other shortcomings. But they look like what I saw with my eyes.

This is my conclusion too. These tools aren’t associated with meme distribution.
I’ve used Loops a lot, but not the analytics tool. When I say “analytics dashboard” to anyone who needs those tools, and I tell them there are over a million MAU they do perk up.
I don’t know what they do with that information, but they definitely get a first impression that ActivityPub (which is what I’m really promoting) is a serious and growing contender.
Yeah, it could be much better. The reason I think it’s worth posting is because Loops.video has a record of doing what they say to a decent standard, so it’s not just wishful thinking.
These are the kinds of tools that people use to justify the use of big tech (well, audience reach too). Hopefully this is a cause for optimism.
I’m torn on this one, because I think we are complicit for not doing the basics of deleting our accounts. We learned about how powerful boycotts are in school as teenagers.
I get that they buy up all the competition, but for most people these are luxuries rather than essentials.
This seems to mean that Meta can’t have the case dismissed. So I’m guessing that other companies who can demonstrate similar downloading patterns, or present similar evidence can also bring a case forward.
I’d imagine that the outcome of the case will be more telling.

Empathy can be learned (it’s in us already, just needs unimpeded space). It’s a higher-order form of intelligence that helps us understand the connections between things that are not mechanical, but rather living: each other.
Even for computer games, I hear stories of men smashing things up when they lose a game or have a certain interaction with another player. There’s an impotent rage lying in wait in many of us, and no man wants to confront their own sense of impotence.
Sincerely, if you can’t see that the trends of behaviours like this in men outpace women significantly, you have a heavily skewed view of the realities here.
There are other phenomena too that uniquely affect men, such as violence towards a spouse when the man’s team loses a sports game.
There is no equivalent for women at that scale. We as men have to own these realities.
There’s a huge market for slop: junk food, slop entertainment, fast fashion. We’re a planet of slop lovers. AI slop will remain popular among many.
