‘365’ subscribers got rate increases specifically because the copilot bullshit was bundled in. they’re already paying for it… they just don’t use it. and you have to jump through hoops, such as feigning a cancellation, just to be offered the non-copilot plan. most don’t know that even exists as an option.
i’ve been stuck on step 4. price hikes chased me away, i haven’t been back. i don’t even know what’s “new” anymore, and i don’t care.
i just watch the stuff i have locally, there’s more new (to me) stuff on my disks than netflix has ever produced.
physical media for movies and tv is next on the list. sony makes those, too.

as popular as diy and linux are on lemmy, pre-builts are still bought by more gamers; and those almost always include windows.
i’m sure that the site’s acquisition was always about user tracking data and never about it being ‘profitable’ itself.

i remember hooking ours up to a 10th gen celeron desktop (supposedly 58w cpu).
the whole box doesn’t even hit 20w at the wall under a full load, and it idles awake at about 5w.
i immediately set that one aside for future use to feed media to a tv or run a dietpi or something.

we keep looking in their direction but the boss doesn’t really wanna change. got some small concession from vzn a little while ago but still more than double what usm would cost.
what would get her to switch would be finding a carrier that actually worked at her house. vzn doesn’t, tm doesn’t, need to find someone around here with at&t to try but there really isn’t anyone around here that does use them.

akonadi is a dependency of some applications that are bundled in a default kde desktop, such as is installed using the kde-standard metapackage in debian.
these applications include kmail, korganizer, kaddressbook, and akregator. removing those four items from a default debian trixie kde install also removes any installed packages with ‘akonadi’ in the name.
it’s as old and out-of-date as the systems you’d be wanting to use it on.
budgie 11’s move to qt will sorta ‘fill a gap’ between lxqt and kde.
on ssd upgrades:
upgrade usually costs less than 30 dollars for a 256GB SATA drive.

as far as pricing. if you’re gonna pay for cloud storage somewhere, anyway…
i know it kinda sucks ass, but you’re basically paying for that extra onedrive space and getting office ‘free’ while you do.
so it does make sense for some users.
but for the love of clippy, don’t share a cheaper 1 user/5pc ‘personal’ plan with other people because they also share your onedrive space. that can get messy and/or really awkward, really fast. get the one you can share with other users and add their msa to your 365 sub.
publisher just flat-out got the axe. it’s even getting taken away from ‘365’ subscribers in a few months. i have a few users that will be affected. they are not happy campers.
if you have it as part of your particular edition and version of (perpetual) office, yea. it should continue to function.
i could count on one hand the number of users i’ve run across that absolutely had to have the real microsoft office. an alternative like libreoffice works just as well for nearly everyone.
