I was/am. ChatGPT wasn’t. But that’s the joke. It is ironic to post an LLM generated answer to a post explaining that LLM generated answers are stupid.

This is such a bizarre take on AI.
If I ask you a question, I want a useful answer. I don’t care whether you got there by remembering it, Googling it, reading documentation, asking a colleague, or asking an LLM.
Obviously, blindly pasting 2,000 words of irrelevant AI slop is annoying. But that’s a problem with bad answers, not with AI.
The particularly stupid part is suggesting that you should take a perfectly good AI-generated answer and rewrite it in your own words. What exactly has been achieved then? The information is identical, except somebody wasted five minutes manually paraphrasing it so the recipient can feel sufficiently exposed to human keystrokes.
Use AI. Give it the relevant context. Verify important claims. Remove irrelevant garbage. Send the useful answer.
Judge communication by its accuracy, relevance and usefulness—not by how inefficiently somebody produced it.

3·9 days agoSurveillance was never the issue. Crime rate is high because people have no education, no jobs with fair salary, no future. Especially if you have a health condition, chances are that your life will be better inside a prison because of the included healthcare.
Fucked up situation. And it will take decades of recovery.

71·9 days agoI’d even go a step further and say that only because of Flock’s good auditing, those cases were revealed. Which means at the same time, that in the past, police officers were doing the same, just hidden.
Kinda like a “don’t shoot the messenger” situation.

2·9 days agoAbsolutely! We all basically do fingerprinting. We’re just not really conscious about the key we are using. But with a bit of statistics, you could identify people.

Technology@lemmy.world•How AI text watermarking works: a visual guideEnglish
71·10 days ago- Only the key-holder can check. Your teacher, editor, or favourite “AI detector” website cannot run this test; a genuine check needs the provider’s secret key, or a checking service the provider runs. Google runs an early-access detector portal for SynthID; Anthropic says detection tooling is forthcoming.
I am not so sure about that. The amounts of words is finite and with enough text, you will see that certain words are used more often, especially in certain combinations. I believe people will brute force this and then create a way to destroy the watermark again.

Technology@lemmy.world•Top economist warns that the AI math doesn’t make sense: 'Profits are currently being funded by investors rather than earned from customers'English
211·14 days agoWhat a smart economist that is. 2 years after everybody knew how this scheme works, they came to the same conclusion. Amazing. Now the world will for sure change. Thank you.
It isn’t always about “new”. For example, some GNU binaries are decades old and were changed only to fix bugs.
C has major disadvantages compared to Rust, which is why even Linus Torvalds said a couple of years ago, to not write any new C code anymore for the Kernel and that old code will be transpiled steadily.
It is not about a cult. It is not about being fancy. It is quite the opposite. Choosing Rust over C is very rational.
Also, obligatory fuck Canonical. Automatic transpiling is such a stupid thing. Have fun maintaining the new code that was written by a machine, while not having any Rust experts in your team.
