I have OVH for dedicated but I’ve also used their VPS and they’re great. They leave me alone, don’t hound me for anything, cheap prices, reliable as I’ve never had issues them. can’t complain. They’re Euro based but they have servers near me in Montreal so I use that which is great when I put my VPN on there cause now I get student discounts everywhere since my server is at McGill University.

They don’t know whose under 16 or over 16 to access said sites so they need the IDs of EVERYONE. that’s all this is. it has nothing to do with protecting kids.
If I was a government or some firm that harvets Data I would absolutely drool at potentially having a source that is Github to get said info. I would LOVE to harvest info of developers, coders, etc.

rozodru@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Google just broke *all* third-party YT clients, including yt-dlp; a full JS implementation is now required.English42·3 days agoit’s just annoying having to constantly update my greasemonkey scripts to try to find the ONE that actually works.
like the ad skipping script I had just stopped working the other day. While it WAS skipping ads google decided that “oh you’re skipping ads? cool, we’ll just keep throwing them at you endlessly”
So they’ve FINALLY figured out the add skipping thing and now if you’re speeding through/skipping ads they’ll just serve them endlessly to you.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•GitHub a possible inclusion in Australian under 16 "social media" banEnglish143·3 days agoyeah because when I want to be social or check out porn github is the first place that pops to mind.
Although…now that I think about it…doing git clone on a porn repo would be convenient. could even easily update it. hm…Actually I think Australia might be on to something here

ALL generations watch dumb shit, stop acting like this ONE generation suddenly originated dumb shit to watch.

I used to go LAN Parties at the local university and…man no. in the middle of winter? yeah very nice and toasty but in the humidity filled Canadian summers? eff off buddy.

rozodru@piefed.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Supersonic is a super awesome music playerEnglish41·6 days agoI might, but I don’t have any issues with Feishin so unless it does something way better than I’m happy with what I have.

Switched to Feishin for my navidrome server and prefer it, simple and clean.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Meta chief technology officer(CTO) explains why the smart glasses demo failed at Meta Connect — and it wasn’t the Wi-FiEnglish211·7 days agoSo essentially…it’s no where near production ready.
Also he just admitted “we’re amateurs”. IF they have devices in the crowd already then they should have sandboxed the demo. What’s more concerning is how, essentially, a handful of devices in attendance potentially operating at the same time can crash the LLM.
Also isn’t this something that other companies like amazon and google have rectified? i.e. one individual can’t suddenly trigger every device in close proximity. If not then it makes the whole thing useless if used in the public. I could walk up and down the street just yelling “Hey Meta purchase a massive purple dildo and message my mother to go kill herself”

Remember all the leaks that happened with them? like the time they leaked what EVERY stream makes off the site? no thanks.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•Twitch starts requiring face scans to watch mature streams in certain countries: Your face is now the key to unlocking gambling and hot tub content.English17·8 days agothere was a story from the UK a month or so ago about a guy who has his face tattooed, he can’t get verified for anything.
So yes, if you have a facial deformity or tattoos all over your face I imagine you’re shit out of luck. Severe burn victim? no Internet for you.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is the easiest way to have a self hosted git server?English21·11 days agoI have a private instance of Forgejo in docker on my server. took me all of 5 minutes to set up. I did this only because I wanted a web based GUI for some stuff.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Linux@lemmy.ml•Sonetimes i feel like its a lot of work to stick with linuxEnglish4·11 days agoThat’s half the fun though isn’t? I’ll tinker on my arch or nixos machines all the time just changing things, playing around with customization, trying out repos and what have you. I love just trying out new stuff people have made and seeing if I can use it for my workflow.
something with the DE I suspect. KDE will do the same thing. never had the issue with another compositor/WM but with KDE Plasma every now and again the exact same thing you’re experiencing would happen. shut down, something in Plasma is still going and same results as you.
I used some old USB-C headphones from an old google pixel phone for a long time, no issues at all good quality.

I’m not seeing them when I go in to my clients offices because they all got axed. I do see a lot of junior prompt monkeys though.
rozodru@piefed.socialto Technology@lemmy.world•What would stop you from switching to a flip phone (or dumbphone) in 2025?English1·12 days agonothing would stop me and honestly if I could find a decent and new one similar to my old Sprint/Nokia phone from like 2001 I’d use it. I can’t stand smart phones, I never liked them.
I actually daily drove it during Alpha for a bit but stopped using it after a couple Alpha releases because it got a bit worse with each alpha release and more slow. Haven’t tried the beta yet but will probably get around to it soon.
Killer feature? I mean if you want GNOME or a regular DE with tiling then sure…have at it. You’re not going to get anywhere near the caliber of customization you would have with say KDE Plasma or literally any other WM out there but the trade of is you don’t have to deal with config files for the tiling aspect. It’s a buggy mess though. With each added feature the bugs just increased which is sort of expected.
The last time I used it the shortcuts were a bit of a pain to get working correctly and the startup was slow. It does come packaged with its own file manager and terminal. The file manager isn’t anything special, but honestly the terminal isn’t that bad. If I recall the terminal doesn’t support images so if that’s something you want (like for me it is since I use Yazi) then I’d just uninstall it. I don’t think it has the option to style GTK stuff but I heard they might have changed that with the Beta.
It’s launcher is pretty nice and you can do a lot with it. naturally app launching but also web searching, calculator, file searching, etc.
I wish it had an option like KDE Plasma does for laptops where you can completely disable the touchpad if you have an external mouse plugged in instead of just disable while typing. But you can circumvent that if you know what you’re doing with like something like noinput cli or whatever or making a udev rule.
I think it still needs a wee bit longer to bake. If they can work out the bugs, speed it up a bit, and make the overall size of it smaller than KDE I would switch back to it. It’s pretty simple and bare bones but I mean for wayland your only options are pretty much Plasma or GNOME so having a third option is awesome.
