They said the same about robots in the 80s, particularly automotive industry robots. They were going to turn society on it’s ear and it was a non-stop news item for some time.

Normal, if stiff, human range of motion. Until it rotates completely around the waist!
entire countries
Not going to even read this horseshit. Which countries? Brazil or Vatican City?
Fuck these headlines. If they have valid points to make, I’ll never see them. Grow the fuck up and be journalists or I don’t have time.
In the Windows 3.1 days I made my own icons. Yes, a single pixel out of place or wrongly colored would throw it all off.
That’s a bit much…
They’re not merely replacing floppies, swapping in some emulators to take over. They’re attempting to redesign and future-proof the entire system. That kind of a big deal. Oh, and it all has to run flawlessly during the transition period.
This ain’t your homelab boys.
There’s far more to motivation and more pay can actually be detrimental depending on the sort of work. Sounds stupidly counter-intuitive doesn’t it? Take a look, this really opened my eyes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPnuFjJc
That video really hit home for me. I looked back over all the varied jobs I had and the places I was most happy gave me what the video talks about. My last job was double the pay and benefits of the one before and I haven’t been less motivated.
Seriously, give it 10-minutes. At one point I was thinking, “Damn! He’s talking about Linux!”
Such a society is not possible because we’re human beings, warts and all. FFS, teach monkeys how to use money and they invent prostitution.
There will always be people who look to dominate others for personal gain. Also, the “tragedy of the commons” is well known fact of life. If an economic system isn’t taking human behavior into account, it’s useless, hippie bullshit.
That’s why capitalism worked so well for so long. Now that we’re into the later stages, it’s up to government to reign it in. When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, a bad/immoral reputation could easily tank a company. Now no one gives a shit, keeps buying and buying. Fine. Time for the government to step up, but our representatives are bought and paid for by the very organizations they should be regulating. And that last is going to be a feature of any economic system.
Maybe it’s already too late? Seems like it, but then I see people like Lina Kahn taking on Wall Street and Silicon Valley, and I have hope.
Well, I suppose you have a genius economic system where the haves don’t take advantage of the have nots. Tell us all about it!
(FFS, do they not teach history in schools any more?!)
Boeing evil! Am I right! (laughter)
It was probably space garbage, and that’s seriously alarming.
Oh look, Lina Khan bringing the heat again. My god, she’s like a bureaucratic superhero. Lemmy loves bagging on capitalism, but capitalism ain’t the problem. The problem is our spineless, bought and paid for government. Action like this can turn us around, wrest power away from the monopolists.
Losing her to a Trump administration is yet another horror we may face.
No lie, just don’t go there. American ignorance is a huge reason why capitalism is failing us, and the media is a huge part of that.
If this goes through, the media should be plastering the news everywhere. And customers should follow up by quitting Kroger. But neither will happen. Kroger could put signs out front saying, “Fuck you. We’re spying on your FACE.”, and customers would just nod and go on inside.
Look at all these comments. Yours is the only one saying go elsewhere.
Don’t know how the question was phrased, but remember, many people find a comment that disagrees with them or presents a fact they don’t like to be “hate”.
Look, I hate Musk as well, but I’m not seeing their side of the story here. That’s what courts are for.
I see the occasional Deere dealership while traveling the countryside. How are they still in business? Every single farmer, bar none, has to know about their business practices. And FFS, independent action like fixing your own shit is core to country life. Maybe they’re coasting on parts sales vs. new machine sales?
Best part the summary missed:
Last year, the company issued a “memorandum of understanding.” The document was a promise to farmers that it would finally let them repair their own equipment, so long as states didn’t pass any laws around the right to repair.
LOL, get real.
Chief among Deere’s promises was that it would provide farmers and independent repair shops with the equipment and documentation they needed to repair their equipment. The promises of the memorandum have not come to pass.
I’ve heard the other manufacturers aren’t locking down repairs. Anyone know if that’s true?
Got a Pixel 5 with a line in the screen for $120. The seller I’m mainly talking about, the one with grades, shows a picture of each phone and any damage.
Don’t know enough to find the study, but AI did provide novel, and unexpected, solutions to magnetic containment issues.
Think it was a pop-sci version of this:
I’m getting unemployment right now. It’s 1/6th of my former pay, zero benefits. Oh, and the max benefit is a total of 2 weeks of former pay.
AHHH!
