Is the a downside to repacking the deb package? They’re basically just zip files of the same binary you’d run on most other Linux distros.

Ah. If we’re talking mobile, all bets are off. FIDO prompts require Apple and Google to provide the necessary APIs for third-party devs to use, and are still somewhat new. It’s likely that since iOS browsers are still just re-skinned WebKit (until the EU stuff settles and Mozilla implements Gecko on iOS), FF on iOS can leverage the OS APIs, but making it work with Gecko on Android requires more work.

Correct. The spec is about making it easier and more secure to export your passwords and passkeys when you move from one password manager to another. People are misunderstanding this as some sort of federated authentication system to share your credentials between multiple password managers at the same time, which it is not.

Yeah. Piracy is alive-and-well. You can even acquire and play PS5 games right now if you wanted to.

It’s also worth noting that even Sony can’t be bothered to properly emulate the PS3, which has resulted in many PS3-era games being remade into either native PC versions, or PS4/5 titles.

While it’s true that there are still some PS3-exclusive games that aren’t available in other formats, many of them are, so most people can get pretty far without needing PS3 emulation.

I only bring that up for anyone that may think they need PS3 emulation, but maybe haven’t been made aware of newer remakes or native PC ports of the games they’re actually looking for.

I know a bunch of people that own Steam Decks, know nothing about Linux, and have no idea that their games are running on it. I’d say it’s pretty easy now

“Karen compiler” is almost perfect, except unlike Karens, the compiler is delightfully helpful with the error messages it gives you (usually). It usually gives a straightforward error, an error code, and sometimes, an easy fix.

As someone that started with Rust, but just yesterday had to fix some C++ code, working with any other compiled language makes me shudder. I have nothing but respect for devs that have to wade through stuff like that.

I agree with your sentiment. Just one small thing: .c files are usually C source code, and are meant to be compiled into binaries.

It doesn’t change OP’s situation at all though.

RustDesk is the closest alternative, and I think it does a pretty good job.
