    Hate to break it to you, but AppleTV really is the best option.

    I haven’t tried it, but I would think that running something shitty like a Roku but gating it with a pi-hole would be reasonable. You just have to make sure that there’s no open networks within reach (neighbors, etc).

          I thought it was best for people who want to pay for subscriptions - and of course the people who take their money.

            I mean, it’s good in that case, too, but it’s also good if you have a Jellyfin server and want a device that supports modern standards like DolbyVision and that isn’t completely overflowing with ads.
