I’ll just leave this here.
How did this go from killing monkeys to human trials so fast?
I think I’d rather hear from the recipients.
The recipient: 🤖
Beep boop IiiT.WOORKS.GREAT. Bzzz
<smoke rises>
“one blink for everything’s ok, two blinks for nothing’s wrong…”
Well the first was overjoyed to have some autonomy back and used his time to play a game of Civ.
And what do third parties not associated with Musk say?
Musk has a history of “saying” things, and presenting mundane advancements that have already been achieved as things he invented.
Pardon me if I don’t believe the lying fascist at his word. Let’s hear from the victim/experts on how they’re doing.
I wouldn’t listen to a victim who says it’s great, because they’ve got a brain implant from Elon Musk. For all I know it’s like Get Out.
who would be dumb enough to get a chip from elon musk insert in your brain
People who can’t walk/use hands/see etc. Why would it be dumb when you almost have nothing to lose cause you are greatly disabled already.
People who desperate, on their knees and have no other choice.
Not sure if you are being sincere or sarcastic but you hit the nail on the head either way. It’s predominantly for paralyzed and disabled people to be able to have mobility. It was a short article but it did cover the two studies:
“The Prime Study, designed for an estimated five patients, allows paralyzed patients to control external devices such as computers or smartphones with their minds. A second study, Convoy, is designed for three patients, and allows them to control devices such as assistive robotic arms.”
yeah if I was paralyzed I could see being part of this.
Right?! I get the whole fuck Elon circle jerk. Dudes an idiot. But with that being said, I am still fascinated by starlink, spaceX, neuralink and Tesla. I dont have a lick of social media beyond this lemmy account (and obviously my definatelynotporn@lemmynsfw.com account or whatever the user tag is), I also do not have cable to be exposed to cable news or main stream media takes. So my fascination is entirely driven by these types of articles that make a mention of musk but the focus is on the advancements being made and while Elon will be in history books for each of these leaps in technology, I still remain fascinated because the advancements are being made by very qualified, very intelligent individuals. As well as the impact these projects have on our everyday life.
oh don’t get me wrong. I mean if I was desperate enough I would certainly try. As far as his companies starlink seems like a nightmare with all that space junk, tesla was something but has pretty much lost it, spaceX is still the best option though.
There are real problem these things can solve when implemented correctly. Regardless of Elons involvement. There is merit to the capabilities for disabled individuals. I’m all for this for health benefits but of course there will be trials and cons. Slow the hate and focus on the technology and its benefits. So much negativity.
Yeah, this is for people that are paralyzed and can do literally nothing. Anything is an improvement.
Right for people who have nothing to really lose. There is just so much Elon hate and I get that part. But the hate for the tech is just unfounded, when it can really change the world across so many industries. But people seem to be blinded by emotion. That they lose sight of the main reason its being developed.
“We’ve got now three humans with Neuralinks implanted and they’re all working well,” Musk said
I thought the first one had more or less stopped working.
It did. Work well -> not officially dead yet
I can’t help but imagine a rotting body that the chip is just allowing to be remote controlled as they Weekend at Bernie’s it around PR events.
“They’re fine, see!”
Corporate-sponsored zombie apocalypse you say?
More like the plot to Tim Burton’s Batman Forever.
An army of cybernetic penguins?
I’m pretty sure the opposite is what’s true. The neural links degrade over time and the implant loses the ability to function.
Wasn’t he in one of the demoed robots a few months back?
That’s not true at all, that guy even wants a second one implanted for even more functionality, and he’s extremely happy with it.
a bunch of threads retracted but it still works, plus it seems they fixed that for future ones
edit: guys look i know elon musk bad but these are really the facts http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xlv4biIY6JI
And Musk is totally one of the top PoE 2 players in the world.
Im sure they are. Its just i dont trust a chip in my head capable of controlling my body. I want foss software with security better than qubes before i risk becoming a zombie.
I haven’t been following this and didn’t see any mention in the article, what makes you say it can control your body? The only applications I’ve seen mentioned read from the body to control external devices, and manipulating the brain/body (with precision) would be a much harder problem I’d think.
The experiments they did in pigs they where literaly controlling the body of the pig to make it walk.
Its a hard problem that they have already solved using AI (machine learning but u gotta get the buzzword in there). I would be far more inclined to get one if it was provably single direction only tho.
I agree until there’s at least open source software to run them. I would not want anything to do with it. Honestly, though, I would prefer both open source hardware and software for this if at all possible.

Fair i would trust intelme or amdpsp even less in my head than i do in my computer.
I’m going to go ahead and say that you do not want the Linux kernel running inside your head, under any circumstances.
Id prefer it to windows.
Never thought I’d live to see 40k servitors but here we are.
🍟
Time to grab your popcorn and watch as all 3 people die within less than a year of the implant due to complications or them having accidentally lobotomized and running into danger head first.
The first person got the implant on January 28 2024. Your clock is ticking.
Damn, you’re right. I hate it when I could possibly be wrong.
Working well doing what?
I mean you could just read an article if you’re guna ask questions like that lol. They have 2 studies open with the FDA:
“The Prime Study, designed for an estimated five patients, allows paralyzed patients to control external devices such as computers or smartphones with their minds. A second study, Convoy, is designed for three patients, and allows them to control devices such as assistive robotic arms.”
I missed it skimming the article. It’s a good thing having it in the thread, so thanks for doing the work.
Lol missed it skimming 4 short paragraphs?🤣 The Cat in the Hat has more fuckin words than this article so don’t be a douche and just say you didn’t even open the article.
“It’s a good thing having it in the thread, so thanks for doing the work.” douchiest comment of the year so far!🥇🏆🏅
Well I’m glad I could brighten your day. Nothing like a good laugh, eh. Take care.
